The difference between a bed that is looked after and one that is not shows up within six months. The good news is how little the looking-after takes.
Take it apart before you wash it
The Original bed comes apart completely — five hidden zips run around it. Take the filling out and wash the cover alone. Never put the whole bed in the machine: the fibre clumps and never recovers its shape.
Hand-wash it, or use a gentle cold cycle. Hot water and a hard spin are the two things that shrink covers and pull them out of shape.
Drying without fading
Dry in the shade, always. Long hours of direct sun fade colour faster than people expect, and high heat in a dryer flattens the filling for good.
Wait until the cover is genuinely bone dry before the filling goes back in. Damp trapped inside is where that stubborn smell comes from — the one no amount of washing seems to fix.
One minute a week
The weekly habit that helps most: one pass with a vacuum or a lint roller, then fluff the filling back into shape. It takes under a minute and adds weeks between washes.
On a water-repellent cover, liquid sits on the surface for a while. Wipe it in time and the cover never has to come off at all — keeping a cloth near the bed pays for itself.
And the pillow-and-blanket set is worth washing before its first use; it comes out softer than it went in.
